Well I have just discovered how the long awaited War Of The Worlds film will look, and as I expected, its a complete sham! Speilberg has taken what is a classic work of fantastic imagination and science fiction, and turned it into an explosion infested nonsense...typical of hollywood the story written by H.G.Wells, has been binned, in favour of this blatant travesty of the original..I have loved WOTW since I was old enough realise the existence of Mars ...Speilberg has created a film which those who are ignorant of the original will love, but which those in the know, will hate..In the H.G.Wells classic, the Martians only invaded England..then near the end they began another assault upon Earth, starting with America...in the film of course the good ol US of A has to have the starring role...we have collectively decided to boycott the film and listen to the real WOTW on digitally remastered CD...believe me if you take the time to listen to this excellent work you will be given a frightening 1st hand account, of life on Earth under these creatures composed entirely of brain...
Hm I can not talk about it yet but will watch it this evening so I can tell you what I think.
I have read the original book by G.H. Wells, I have heard the radio play by Orson Welles, I have also seen the English theatrical version (kind of a musical) and now I saw the movie and it was excellent! I have not been scared watching a movie in more than 10 years and during this movie I jumped in my chair twice! Very well and extremely realistically filmed that is what made it so scary because it is so npormal so natural how it is acted and so the story proceeds... I can't wait to buy it on DVD. Star
Well, I heard that there is an English group maing a War of the Worlds movie which is true t the original book by H. G. Welsh. I haven't seen Spielberg's versio yet but plato do so this week, went to see Madagaskar instead yesterday, awful movie, some funny one liners and David Schwimmer did a great job but apart from that pretty sad. I think if he decided to bring this movie into the current time that he couldn't stick to the original book that well. The weapons etc that the aliens used in the original book were far less impressive and destructive tha the nuclear and h bobs that we have at our disposal today and at that same scenario they wouldn't stand a chance against what we have. They needed something mor advanced to pose a real threat to today's society. Still I suspect goblin will be right but I will have to point out that obviously he is dealing out judgement without even seeing the movie and I think that's very prejudice. How can you criticize what you haven;t seen, is that the right way forward. I don't think so. He might well be right but I am going to preserve my judgement until I've actally seen the movie itself and I would advise others to do the same.

yEAH IT WASN#t TOO BAD ACTUALLY:
I want to go see the movie
Well, I did go see the movie last ight and, I have to say, goblin is very wrong judging the movie before he has seen it. It may at times appears I purposely disagree with him but this is oddly at all not the case (see friends with benefits topic as an example of where he very elegantly puts my thoughts exactly". My problem is people who judge something like a movie or a book without seeing it. As it turns out the movie is a lot more true to the original story than I had ever expected. Sure, it takes place in the U.S. in the beginning of the 21st century, not in the UK at the end of the 19th century but the story focuses on people and their reactions to terrible events and as such that movie is timeless (or the subject matter at any wait).
The ferry scene is taken almost directly from the book, the experience of people going mad under those conditions is copied almost exactly, in the movie the mainhero is a dad trying to protect his children and renewing family bonds, not a British gentleman whose wife went away to London. You need that dynamic to create a deeper and more current side to the story. The biggest market is the U.S. and it makes a lotmore sense you have events taking place in the U.S. to appeal directly to U.S. audiance and in any case the actual location of events was not that important in the book, it could have happened everywhere. Somehow they had to explain a few things and change things around a bit to account for the fact that technology is more advanced now and people live differently, but the enemy is the same, similar looking, same weapons, same tactics, the invasion follows the book somewhat closely. I'm not saying it's the best movie I've seen but it's a good movie, quite scary and also quite emotionally effective. I have to say I liked it and I think Spielberg did a much better job of following the original story than I ever would have imagined.
Cheers
